Hoover-AHEAD’s Diversity Engagement Initiative

It is a good thing to believe in the benefits of diversity within your community, but it is a better thing yet to find ways of actively engaging your beliefs by backing them with intentional action.

Hoover-AHEAD invites you to participate in the Diversity Engagement Initiative (D.E.I.), where you can challenge yourself to make meaningful, measurable progress in this area by taking action in one (or more, hopefully) of the following suggested areas:

  • Engage (on your own) with one of the materials (e.g., books, films, podcasts, etc.) in the Hoover-AHEAD Discussion Club Resources document.
  • Engage with your friends, family, coworkers, and/or community members in a discussion based on one of the materials (e.g., books, films, podcasts, etc.) in the Hoover-AHEAD Discussion Club Resources document.
  • Engage socially with someone from a racial/cultural/ethnic background different from your own.
  • Engage with diverse communities by attending cultural events and celebrations (e.g., Juneteenth celebrations, Fiesta, Dia de los Muertos, Jewish Food and Culture Fest, Mela, etc.).
  • Engage with Hoover-AHEAD by attending Hoover-AHEAD events and/or volunteering as an associate.
  • Engage with public officials (e.g., elected officials at the local and/or state level, leaders in the schools/school district) to express your support for diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives in our public institutions.
  • Engage with groups doing work in the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion space by making a donation to help support their efforts:

So grab a journal/agenda/planner or start a spreadsheet that you can use to track the things you’re doing in the coming months to engage with diversity, equity, and inclusion through the Diversity Engagement Initiative. And help spread the word by clicking HERE.

And if you wouldn’t mind doing so, please take a minute to complete this form to officially register for the Hoover-AHEAD Diversity Engagement Initiative.
